Located in the Portuguese border town with Spain, the Pousada Valenca is a luxury hotel in a modern building located within a 17th century fortress which surrounds the old town of Valenca. The Pousada offers superb views over the River Minho, Gustav Eiffel’s bridge linking Portugal and Spain and part of the old fortress walls which have been used over many centuries to protect Portugal from Spanish invaders.
The Hotel Valenca Do Minho has 18 beautifully decorated rooms, some with balconies overlooking the river. All rooms have en-suite bathroom, heating/air conditioning, minibar, telephone, Cable TV, hairdryer, and safe. Some rooms have internet access.
The charming old fortified town of Valenca is accessed by a series of narrow archways leading to the inner fortifications so a small car is recommended. The town’s cobbled streets, picturesque square and abundance of small shops are very popular, particularly at weekends.
There are some good restaurants in Valenca but we highly recommend eating in the Pousada’s own restaurant which offers excellent regional and international dishes.
