Designed by Italian artist Nicola Bigaglia author of the project of the Hotel do Bussaco, this building is from the late nineteen hundreds. In 1996, under the direction of master architect Fernando Távora, the space was transformed into a Museum of Modern Art,
where in addition to the architectural interest; three types of art collection are kept: antique furniture, painting and sculpture.
