Pillory of Valença do Douro

Tabuaço
Description
This pillory dates back to the 17th century and was built in the style typical of the age. It has been classified as a Property of Public Interest.

The pillory is located in a small square on irregularly levelled ground. It rises from a socle with three very rough-edged steps forming its circular base. These steps sit on a platform built to compensate for the unlevel ground. The shaft of the column has a square section at its base and top. The chamfered corners on most of its height give it an octagonal shape. The capital is a framed quadrangular block topped by a poorly preserved protruding board. The pillory is crowned by a pyramid framed by a very irregular, truncated top.
