The Fort of Lagarteira, also called Âncora Fort, was built in Vila Praia de Ancora, considered a building of public interest since 1967 and the objective was the defense of the coast against the threat of the Spanish Armada.
It is a fortress with plant in star form, consisting of four side ramparts and battery with three faces on the facade facing the river. In this construction are reconciled the seventeenth century features with the persistence of some medieval nature notes, such as the closed balcony.
