Ichnofossils of Meitriz (geosite 21)

Arouca
Description
This geosite is constituted by the quartzite outcrops located in the banks of the Paiva river, between the Meitriz (Arouca) e Pereiró (Castro Daire) villages, as the result of the deposition in a shallow marine environment, preserving several evidences of the living beings activity (ichnofossils), such as the evidences of Cruziana resulting from the activity of arthropods. It groups important outcrops with C. rugosa, which are cruciforms in big plates, and with C.  furcifera. It is also possible to see big planes with cross sections of Daedalus halli, with Skolithos linearis, Monocraterion isp. and Planolites beverleyensis. Besides the iconological findings, it is also important to refer the existence of wide surfaces of stratification covered by truly singular ripples.
