Church, Tower and Necropolis of S. Gens

Fafe
Description
On the very spot where the church, tower and necropolis of S. Gens now stand, there was a monastery in the Middle Ages, which some authors claim to have belonged to the Benedictine monks. The south side door is the only part remaining from the original building. The round door is built in fine granite and has hardly any decorations, as the capitals of the columns flanking the doorway are marked only by stylized representations of figureheads. The granite bell tower at the back of the church is presumably Medieval, and affords a view over the green fertile valley at the foot of Lameira Mountain.
