The parish church was built in 1951 on the site of a medieval chapel in the same invocation.
The parish is a producer of generous table wines (Porto) of excellent quality. Here abound farms where people work under temperatures exceeding, easily 35 degrees Celsius, in summer. In addition to the wine, also is produced excellent quality olive oil.
