It is a mechanical lifting to move the slate from the bottom of the quarry to the outside. It dates from the 20s of last century, using electric driving force. It belonged to the Empresa das Lousas de Valongo, being now an important heritage as local identity to the people of Valongo – the slate. It is located in the place where the slate exploitation began in the year 1865 by the british company “The Valongo Slates & Marbles Quarries Company, Limited”. The old equipment is installed in the center of a roundabout.
